Their chickens where raised on the family farm from hatchlings until full grown. Country Golden Yolks jumped in with both feet changing all their white caged birds into free range laying hens! We began to notice a change in the quality of egg that was being produced from our “happy” chickens. This taught us lots about the chicken and the egg. Each day they would hand pick eggs out of wooden nest boxes. As we put it, “There’s nothing better than seeing happy chickens.”Ĭountry Golden Yolks overcame any chicken farming inexperience through a commitment to hard work.
This was the birth of the Free Range farming practice. Wanting to try something new, they decided to change some of their white laying hens to brown, giving these hens the opportunity to go outside into the pasture during the day and have a nice roosting place at night. It all started in 1989 with a white laying poultry operation, throwing caution to the wind and having no experience in chickens.
